My real estate career started many years ago when I decided to obtain my real estate license. However, I quickly realized that driving people around to view properties and holding open houses on weekends wasn't my cup of tea.

So, I thought the mortgage business might be a better fit for me. Controlling all the money and having "banker's hours" seemed like a good idea. And it was great—I made amazing money until... the housing market crashed in 2008.

Suddenly, as my grandfather would have said, "I was up the creek without a paddle."

Scrambling to keep food on the table and support my family, I found a job performing occupancy inspections on houses in foreclosure. Discovering that job was a blessing and helped me get my head back above water.

But as always, I craved something bigger and better. (If you're reading this, I believe you can relate.)

One day, while browsing employment postings on Craigslist, I came across a real estate investment company looking for someone to inspect homes so they could make buying decisions. Bingo!

I already knew about real estate, spoke the lingo, and was already inspecting houses (kind of), and this paid a whole lot better! I called them up, went to meet them, and landed the gig as their property inspector.

Did you ever notice how life sometimes takes unexpected turns? Well, it happened to me again while doing property inspections for these investors. One day, they said,

"You know, you should start rehabbing houses for us."

At first, I tried to laugh it off and explained that I had absolutely no experience with renovations, but they persisted. Not one to turn down a challenge, I started hiring crews and began renovating houses.
